Have you notice all of the terrible things happening around this world.  The flooding in Tennessee, huge oil spill in the Gulf, ferry crash in New York, earthquakes, tornados, volcanoes etc.  In the United States unemployment is sky high, and people are still losing jobs left and right.  Foreclosures are at an all time high and still climbing.  Gas prices continue to rise, as well as everything else.  Why is so much happening in our lives? Also, what can we do to change it?

Let’s go back a little bit, and I know you are thinking I’ve heard this before, but the truth is the truth.  This country (United States) was founded on the word of God.  The Pilgrims came to this land, so that they could freely worship God.  There were many great leaders that had God in the forefront of their lives.  Look at The Declaration of Independence, it showed that our founding fathers believed in God, and they steered this country with God leading the way.  Not only that, but fathers and mothers taught their children the Word of God, for it was part of their daily education.  Communities strived loving their neighbors and God.  Being there for each other and working together to make this a place better to live in.

Now, let’s come back to our time, and look at what has happen to our country America the Beautiful and the world around us.  One of main things that happened is prayer was taken out of the schools.  Children were acknowledging God every morning and praying for everyone and everything pertaining to this nation and world.  When the prayer stopped the country started to spiral down, and the children lost respect and self worth.  Also, by removing prayer from schools the 3rd commandment was broken that commands us “not to take the name of the Lord in vain” Exodus 20:7  So, now we have everybody out for themselves, and not caring about anyone else, because its all about me syndrome is fully in effect, and when that is happening there is no room for anything else, not even God.  Now, we have broken the greatest commandment of all, which is to love the Lord your God with all of your heart, with all of your soul, with all of your mind, and with all of your strength Mark 12:30.

To put in a nutshell, this country has taken it focus off of God, and has made the things of this world and what we want to do more important than God, and because of this God is angry, and that is why there is so much destruction in the land.  God clearly said if my people which are called by my name would humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from Heaven, then will I forgive sin, and heal their land 2 Chronicles 7:14.

We need to put prayer back into our lives, and not just before we go to bed.  First we need to repent.  Start setting aside some time in the morning when you get up, and grab your Bible, read and then pray.  Then incorporate prayer & praise throughout the day.  The Bible says that God inhabits the praises of his people Psalm 22:3.  Do you know that when you praise God he dwells in the atmosphere.  God loves to be praised.  We will talk about that next time.  Let’s also care about our neighbors and communities. We are to love our neighbors.  Also, when you pray, don’t just pray asking for what you want, but pray for others and seek God’s will in your life.
